A Reference List For Plant Re-introductions, Recovery Plans and Restoration Programmes
The following reference list is a review of the available literature on plant re-introductions, recovery plans and restoration programs. Plant re-introductions are increasingly being used as a means of reinstating extirpated species, or to aid the recovery of severely reduced plant populations. Although re-introductions are generally a high risk, high cost exercise, they can play an important role in species conservation as well as in raising public awareness to the plight of both endangered taxa and their associated habitats. This reference list aims to provide those working in this field with a source of baseline information. [eng]
Western Regional Plant Introduction Station
The mission of the Western Regional Plant Introduction Station (WRPIS) at Pullman, Washington is to maintain the diversity and the accessibility of plant germplasm resources. [eng]
Plant Introduction Station
The NCRPIS conserves and encourages the use of valuable collections of germplasm. These collections contain about 1,600 plant species and more than 45,000 accessions. Types of germplasm managed at the NCRPIS include wild and weedy crop relatives, traditional cultivars or landraces, and elite lines or populations, which are the products of modern plant breeding. JC Raulston Arboretum
The mission of The Arboretum is to enrich and expand urban and residential landscapes by promoting a greater diversity of superior and better adapted landscape plants for creative, environmentally sound landscapes. [eng]
Plant Introductions
These are named cultivars that have been selected by the PISBG committee as superior clones for the local nursery industry. Some may be of hybrid origin, others are clones from variable species. All PISBG plant introductions are propagated vegetatively to ensure cultivar characteristics. Glossy information sheets and colourful labels are produced for these plants as an aid for marketing. Scientific Research and Plant Introduction
The University of British Columbia Botanical Garden is a world leader in research and plant introductions. [eng]
